Cynthia's Chauffeur

An American girl hires a car and a chauffeur for a tour of the English counties, and the chauffeur is not what the agency sent. Tracy wrote for the newspapers and knew exactly how long a reader would sit still for; the motoring romance was the light fiction of its decade and this is a brisk example. Fifty-seven plates, among them Edward Lear and William Logsdail, range across the counties and the Continent her motor tour would have passed, giving the light romance a painterly backdrop.
