The Coming of the Amazons

A satirical speculation in which women take charge of the American republic and run it rather better, or at any rate differently. Johnson wrote it in 1931 with the suffrage a decade old and the joke pointing in several directions at once. This edition is bound with sixty plates of paintings from 1853 to 1923, among them works by George Bellows, Martin Johnson Heade and Ralph Albert Blakelock.
