The Woman Gives

A girl arrives in New York to be a model and an artist's subject, and the book follows what the city makes of her and what she makes of herself. Johnson wrote the Lawrenceville school stories that every American boy read, and then this, which is about as far from them as he could get. This edition adds a gallery of 49 plates bound with the book, with paintings by William Merritt Chase, Francisco Aznar, and James Ensor, alongside seven restored and coloured illustrations.
