Cecil Castlemaine's Gage, Lady Marabout's Troubles, and Other Stories

Short novels and stories of the fashionable world by the young Ouida - a wager over a woman, a matchmaking mother, and a guardsman's honor. She wrote these in her early twenties for the magazines and the swagger is already complete. This edition is bound with a gallery of 56 plates, among them paintings by Thomas Lawrence, Thomas Gainsborough and Edvard Munch.
