Tarzan and the Ant Men

Tarzan crashes his plane among a people the size of a hand, is shrunk to their scale by their surgeons, and has to live under laws made for creatures that weigh an ounce. Burroughs wrote it in 1924 and used the miniature kingdom to satirise everything from feminism to militarism, then let the ape-man walk out of it. Meanwhile Esteban Miranda, the Spaniard who once passed himself off as Tarzan, is still alive in the jungle. Sixty plates of cattle, forest streams and tree ferns by painters including William Henry Davis and Théodore Rousseau, 1810 to 1927, set beside a story of a man reduced to the size of a farm animal.
