Lady Betty Across the Water

An English girl of good family and no money crosses to America to see how the Americans live, and reports back in letters. The Williamsons wrote it as one of their transatlantic comedies of manners, with the social machinery observed from both sides of the ocean. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates of painting, among them works by John Constable, Charles Hoguet and Peder Balke, ranging from Hampstead Heath to coastal and maritime scenes.
