The Unbearable Bassington

A young man of great charm and no means is manoeuvred by his mother towards money and a career, and neither of them will admit affection until it is too late. Saki wrote only two novels and this is the crueller; the last page is one of the coldest endings in English fiction. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates, among them paintings by Carl Schuch, Raden Saleh and Robert Mannix, ranging from still life and portraiture to animals and landscape.
