The Twilight of the Gods, and Other Tales

Ironic tales of gods, saints and devils in decline - Prometheus in retirement, a pope who bargains, an alchemist's demon. Garnett was Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum and wrote these in the intervals of cataloguing. This edition binds 54 plates of painting with the tales, among them Roman capriccios and ruins by Panini, Paltronieri and Amorosi, and restores and colours its single in-text illustration.
