Fibble, D.D.

The Reverend Roscoe T. Fibble, D.D., a small, earnest and thoroughly self-satisfied young curate, tells his own misadventures in three instalments: a card to the public explaining what really happened when he founded an organization called the Young Nuts of America, an open letter about his adventures in France during the war, and extracts from his diary that end at Lover's Leap. Irvin S. Cobb was one of the highest-paid humorists in America and knew exactly how a self-satisfied man sounds on paper; Fibble gives himself away in every paragraph. Fifty-one plates by Whistler, Bierstadt and their contemporaries follow the curate from London church spires to the cathedral rocks of Yosemite.
