The Amethyst Cross

A cross of amethyst passes between an actress, a blackmailer and a murder, and the man who wants it is the last one anybody suspects. Hume wrote the best-selling detective novel of the whole Victorian era and then a hundred and thirty more. This edition adds fifty-nine plates of painting bound with the text, among them works by Walter Sickert, Myles Birket Foster and Thomas Cantrell Dugdale, plus one restored and coloured in-text illustration.
