The Green Gables Trilogy

The first three Anne books in one volume: Anne of Green Gables (1908), the orphan sent to Prince Edward Island by mistake; Anne of Avonlea (1909), Anne at sixteen, teaching the school she once sat in; Anne of the Island (1915), four years at Redmond College and the answer, at last, to Gilbert Blythe. Montgomery wrote the first in the evenings after her post-office work and could not find a publisher for two years. Ninety-five paintings from 1830 to 1925, among them Thomas Cole and James McNeill Whistler, trace the wild coasts, autumn fields and quiet harbours of Anne's island world.
