Waverley was Sir Walter Scott's first novel written to record Scott's life in the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. It has remained hugely popular since it was written and now has value not only as a description of Scott's life but also as a view of the famous uprising in Scotland.
