Sartor Resartus

The philosophy of clothes, delivered by a fictitious German professor whose manuscript arrives in a paper bag, together with the lectures on heroes. Carlyle invented a whole language for this and it is either the most exhilarating or the most unreadable book of its century, depending on the reader. This edition carries 59 bound plates of painting from 1530 to 1906, among them works by Adolph von Menzel, Caspar David Friedrich and John Harris.
