Further Chronicles of Avonlea

Fifteen more stories from the village: a minister's courtship conducted by proxy, a quilt that settles a twenty-year quarrel, a boy who runs away to sea and comes back. Montgomery did not authorise this collection — her former publisher printed it from stories she had sold him years earlier, and she sued. The tales are early and the sentiment is unguarded. Forty-three plates of gardens, spruce woods and village churches by painters including Munch and Corot answer these stories of village life with scenes of the same quiet, rooted world.
