The Ninth Vibration and Other Stories

Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by Odilon Redon, Johan Christian Dahl and Edvard Munch. Stories of the East by a woman who had lived in it: a Kashmir houseboat, a Tibetan monastery, a Japanese ghost, a hermit who explains reincarnation to a British officer and is not contradicted. L. Adams Beck was Elizabeth Louisa Moresby, who settled in Canada after years in India, Japan and Burma and became a Buddhist; the theology here is not decoration, and the ninth vibration is a technical term. Fifty-nine plates by painters including Nicholas Roerich and Odilon Redon carry the northern lakes, fortress towers and forest light that answer the haunted landscapes of these Eastern tales.
