The Flight of the Shadow

"The Flight of the Shadow" by George MacDonald is the story of an orphaned girl and the beloved uncle who took her in. As she grows, she becomes a lovely, kind-hearted young women. Eventually, and with her uncle's blessing, she falls in love with a man but his overbearing mother attempts to keep them apart so she never has to worry about her own fortune ending up in the hands of someone else.
