"Vengeance Trail" by Frederick Schiller Faust is a western that follows Johnnie Tanner, a young man with spirit but not much innate skill. When he met the grizzled sharp-shooter Hank Raney, he didn't even know how to shoot, camp, or even ride. That all changed when these two set off on an adventure on the trail. Unprepared for battle, they face off with the Pawnees, who don't take too kindly to white men being on their land. When Johnnie discovers one of his most prized possessions has gone missing, he's quick to turn this conflict into a full-on war.
