My Attainment of the Pole

Cook's own account of reaching the North Pole in April 1908, a year before Peary - the claim that produced the bitterest quarrel in the history of exploration. Almost nobody now believes him; the book is the case he made, and it is worth reading as that. This edition adds 57 plates of polar and marine painting by Friedrich, Aivazovsky, Church and others, alongside 39 illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
