The Man of the Forest

A hunter who has spent his life in the Arizona timber overhears two men planning to steal a girl's inheritance, and appoints himself her guardian without telling her. Grey was a dentist who abandoned the drill for the typewriter and invented the popular western; nine of these books were on the American bestseller lists in the 1910s and 1920s, and Hollywood filmed them more than a hundred times. Fifty-six plates by Frederic Remington and Charles Marion Russell carry the stampede, the horse theft and the buffalo hunt that give this forest chase its Western grain.
