As the Crow Flies

Letters from Corsica, the Riviera, San Remo and Genoa, then from England — a Devonshire market town, Oxford, Windsor, the Yorkshire coast, the Lakes — written for the Hartford papers by an American who lived abroad and looked at both countries as a well-read visitor. Walter Phelps Dodge also wrote lives of Piers Gaveston and of Sir Richard Burton, and his eye for the history behind a place runs through the book. Fifty-eight plates by Canaletto and Guardi follow the same Italian journey, their Venetian canals and Roman ruins matching the scenes Dodge describes.
