Dreams and Dream Stories

Dreams recorded on waking, and the stories that grew out of them: a laboratory where the animals judge the vivisector, a city of the dead, a woman who wakes remembering a life she has not lived. Kingsford took a medical degree in Paris without dissecting a single animal, then spent her life fighting vivisection, and believed she had killed two experimenters by will alone. The dreams are printed as she wrote them down. Fifty-eight plates of dream and vision by Fuseli, Goya and others, from the sleepwalking Lady Macbeth to the nightmare haunting a Mogul, mirror the strange terrain these dreams inhabit.
