The Last Abbot of Glastonbury

Glastonbury in 1539 - the abbey dissolved, the treasure seized, and the last abbot hanged on the Tor above his own church. Crake was a schoolmaster-priest who wrote historical tales for boys and did not soften what the commissioners did. This edition carries fifty-seven plates of church interiors and devotional scenes by painters including Bosboom, Ralli and Wyczółkowski, alongside three illustrations restored and coloured for this volume.
