The Rover Boys on the Farm

The Rover boys spend their last days at Putnam Hall and a season at the family farm at Valley Brook, with a mountain cave, a Wild West show and old schoolmates to fill the time between terms. Stratemeyer wrote thirty Rover books under a pen name and ran the syndicate that turned out most American series fiction for fifty years. The farm detail is genuine and the plot is machinery, which is exactly what the readers wanted. Fifty-six plates of American farm and field work by painters including Winslow Homer and Eastman Johnson, 1864 to 1926, give the Valley Brook chapters their real harvest light.
