Blue Aloes: Stories of South Africa

This story is set in the country then named Rhodesia in 1919. There are four distinct stories in the book, the first of which gives the book its title. Christine Chaine is a young English governess who has taken the job of looking after the three Van Cannan children at the Karoo farm, Blue Aloes. She is new to South Africa and still fearful of the night noises she hears.
