Lefty o' the Training Camp

Complete and unabridged, with 59 full-page plates by George Bellows, Edward Mitchell Bannister and Albert Bierstadt. A young pitcher signs with a professional club and finds the training camp is where the gambling interest does its work. Gilbert Patten wrote as "Burt L. Standish" and invented Frank Merriwell, the model for every clean-living American sports hero since. The baseball is technically exact and the crookedness is treated as an ordinary business problem. Fifty-nine plates by painters including George Bellows and Thomas Eakins carry the open fields and city streets of the game's own era alongside the text.
