Thankful Blossom, and Tennessee's Partner

Washington's army is freezing and mutinous in its winter quarters, a Jersey farmer's daughter is courted by two officers, and somebody is passing information. Harte made the California gold rush into literature and gave America its gamblers and its snowbound cabins; here he leaves the West for the Revolution, and the cold is as convincing as anything in his mining camps. Sixty plates of winter, from Munch's snowbound Kragerø to frozen rivers and hunters, keep the cold of Morristown on the page.
