Barbara Winslow, Rebel

A Somerset girl during Monmouth's rebellion hides a fugitive and faces Judge Jeffreys for it. Beth Ellis wrote historical romance with a sharper heroine than the form usually allowed and died at thirty-nine. This edition binds thirty-five plates of painting with the text, among them works by Munch, Gainsborough and Highmore, and includes the translator's note.
