The Symbolism of Freemasonry

What the square, the compass and the apron are held to mean, set out by the man who wrote the standard American lexicon of the craft. Mackey was a physician who gave up medicine for masonic scholarship and remains the authority most often cited by the lodges themselves. This edition is bound with a gallery of 60 plates of painting, among them works by Panini, Turner and Franciabigio, and includes five illustrations restored and coloured for this edition.
