The Freaks of Mayfair

Portraits of the London great world, drawn with an accuracy that made Benson's acquaintances uneasy - the hostess, the collector, the man who is invited everywhere and liked nowhere. This is the cruelty that would later be softened into Mapp and Lucia. This edition adds fifty-eight plates of painting, 1795 to 1927, among them Tissot, Orpen and Bramley, on the tea party, the dinner party and the luncheon.
