Henry of Ofterdingen

A young medieval poet dreams of a blue flower and goes to look for it. Novalis left the book unfinished at twenty-eight, and the blue flower became the emblem of European romanticism itself. This edition binds 58 plates of Northern landscape painting with the text, among them works by Caspar David Friedrich, Edvard Munch and Carl Gustav Carus, and carries the translation of Friedrich von Schlegel and Ludwig Tieck.
