'The Story of the Foss River Ranch: A Tale of the Northwest' is a novel by Ridgwell Cullum set in the Western Canadian ranching world. The story begins at the annual ball of the Polo Club, a social function of the first water, where the rich and fashionable gather. John Allandale, or "Poker" John, is the uncle and guardian of Joaquina, or "Jacky," a beautiful and strong-willed girl who attracts the attention of many men.
