"Kophetua the Thirteenth" is a Victorian-era novel of political satire. The plot evolves in the mysterious land of Oneria – a utopian colony established in Africa during the Renaissance, in the age known as Elizabethan. The colony is a self-sustained country trading with Western Europe. Yet, the political system of the country (elimination of taxes or sending those incapables of living a good Christian life to special enclaves) aimed to provide for the utopian society brings about different results. The novel is a great example of the romantic literature of the Victorian era as a genre.
