Beside the Bonnie Brier Bush

Drumtochty: a schoolmaster, a doctor who rides out in blizzards, a mother whose son goes to the university, a minister nobody understands. Maclaren was John Watson, a Free Church minister in Liverpool whose sketches of a Scottish village became a transatlantic bestseller and gave the Kailyard school its name and its reputation. The sentiment is thick and the deathbeds are real. Its 61 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
