"The Quickening" by Francis Lynde reflects the steel industry in the early 20th century as it is seen through the eyes of a small town that has a steel-producing plant. In this small industrial town in Georgia, love blossoms. With virtually all the residents in the area dependent on the plant for their livelihood, the book is an interesting look at how entire towns and populations can be affected by something that to others seems rudimentary and something to take for granted.
