A Municipal Feud and Other Western Stories

Three early tales by a writer who knew exactly how little any war has to do with heroism: a desert-town feud fought with ledgers as much as rifles, a soldier's interlude, and a Revolutionary battle piece. Haycox wrote for the pulps at first and made the Western respectable in the Saturday Evening Post; John Ford filmed one of his stories as Stagecoach. Fifty-six paintings by Charles Marion Russell and Frederic Remington, from moving camps to saloons entered at a run, keep the West of these stories in view throughout.
