Alive in the Jungle

A missionary's children are left in an Indian jungle when their escort is scattered, and survive on what an old servant knows. Eleanor Stredder wrote adventure stories for the young with a good deal of natural history in them. The book is plain about the danger and plainer about the fact that the children owe their lives to a man their society would not have thanked. Fifty-seven plates of river bends, buffalo herds and wooded landscapes by painters including Thomas Baines and Frederic Edwin Church carry the wild country the children cross.
