The Room in the Tower, and Other Stories

Ghost stories by the youngest son of an Archbishop of Canterbury - the room a man keeps dreaming of before he is shown it, the caterpillars, the bus conductor who says there is room for one more. Benson wrote comedies of manners for a living and horror for pleasure, and the horror has lasted better. Fifty-six plates of moonlit water, winter streets and shadowed figures by Grimshaw and Munch keep the night falling long after the last page is turned.
