Tales of Two People

Short stories of London and the country houses around it, in the light ironic manner of the Dolly Dialogues rather than the Ruritanian romances. Hope was a barrister and the courtroom timing shows in the dialogue. This edition is bound with a gallery of 58 plates of painting, including portraits by Henry William Pickersgill, John MacLaren Barclay and Margaret Gillies, dated 1840 to 1910.
