This book is a whimsical, charming, and funny adventure story. It tells about two widows who are shipwrecked on their way to Japan. Accompanied by another survivor, a young man, they make their way to an island, where they set up housekeeping with a strict division of duties and maintain a civil existence. Although their adventures seem highly improbable, they are also highly entertaining to read about.
